Architecture
The DataDoors architecture consists of many tiers, each having specific
functionality, which are tightly integrated through standard communications
protocols. The top-level tier consists of an ArcGIS, web, or other user
interface. From here, information flows through the Internet using SOAP-complient
XML to talk to the web service tier. This tier is a key part of the DataDoors
system, interpreting information from the central database and passing
it back and forth to various other portions of the system. The visualization
tier allows data to be streamed real-time through its interface with the
web service. Further down, the production tier is responsible for processing
the data and interfacing with various manual systems, a decision support
system, the data on disk, and the administrative interface. The storage
tier consists of distributed archives and metadata stored on disk, which
is loaded from the ingest tier. Finally, the delivery tier represents
the methods of getting data to the end users, and the support tier offers
additional services to the system.
