Data Hosting Services

The variety and volume of raster data - satellite imagery, aerial photography, lidar, DEMs, scanned maps - is growing exponentially. Finding the dataset your users need and distributing it on demand is a challenge for even the most robust technical departments.

i-cubed can help.

Data Hosting, Visualization
and Distribution Services

Hosting Choices
i-cubed has many data hosting, and distribution services available that accommodate your organizations requirements. Proprietary customer data can be hosted at the secure i-cubed facility in Colorado or at your facility with a redundant capability at i-cubed. Whatever implementation strategy is chosen, data can also be mirrored to a second Colorado backup facility to provide an even higher level of reliability and redundancy.

Location Independence
Customers can choose to completely outsource archive hosting, management and distribution. Alternatively, customers may use the i-cubed facility as the first phase of their deployment, with a subsequent transition to their own facilities at a later time. This approach provides the fastest time to operational readiness while also providing a migration path that will permit an organization to have complete control over hosting and management of its archive.
The flexibility of the DataDoors architecture means that whatever implementation strategy is used, the user’s view into the archive does not change. This allows the decision on where to physically host the data to be made based on cost, physical proximity, security and other corporate objectives.

Archive Augmentation
Irrespective of where an archive is physically located, a customer’s proprietary archive can be augmented with data from the i-cubed Instant Imagery archive which provides comprehensive coverage with some of the best publicly available datasets. These include imagery from one foot to 15 meter resolution, optimized for visual interpretability at all scales.

Data Preview from the DataDoors Streaming Service
In addition to being able to manage and host data in secured, authenticated archives, accessible via an ArcMap extension or a web browser, DataDoors also provides the ability to stream data contained within an archive as an Open GIS-compliant Web Map Service (WMS) streaming service. This permits on-line use of imagery data in addition to providing users with the ability to preview archived data prior to extraction for off-line use. Various referential data layers can also be integrated into a standard data “stack” to provide a valuable context for the imagery.
The following diagrams briefly describe the most common implementation strategies in use today. Of course, any customer can also simply access the i-cubed Instant Imagery archive without using any of these hosting strategies for their own data. i-cubed’s Instant Imagery archive provides the lowest cost and fastest delivery for enhanced data sets, using desktop or browser-based access clients.

Augmented Implementation Using Hosted Services From i-cubed provides a convenient and rapid access for any archive. Customer data is ingested into the DataDoors archive manager and cataloged. Using secure logins established by the customer, users can then gain access to the archive for either streaming or extraction activities. Since all access to the archive is completely controlled by the customer using a database driven authentication process, proprietary data remains completely secure and only available to authorized users.

Augmented Client-Side Deployment provides maximum control for implementation while also providing the benefits of an augmented archive which is served up over the web by i-cubed. Under this strategy, the DataDoors framework is completely deployed behind the customer firewall. Customer data may be augmented by selected Instant Imagery data layers, which are either streamed or available for download from i-cubed. Under an appropriate update agreement, referential data layers are maintained by i-cubed.

Complete Client-Side Deployment provides maximum control for implementation. Under this strategy, the DataDoors framework is completely deployed behind the customer firewall. Customer data may be augmented by a local copy of selected Instant Imagery data layers. Under an appropriate update agreement, referential data layers are periodically updated by i-cubed.
